Ignore the 3rd poster who states that all orchids require the same care - this just is not true. They come from various regions around the world, some live in tree bark, some grow in the ground, in soil that freezes.

You're lucky with Phalaenopsis, as they are easy to care for.

Follow the 1st posted answer. I gave one to my mum (older and forgets her plants) and it flowered near non-stop for 4 years.

Good light - not direct sunlight. Too little light will reduce flowers.

Water by lowering the pot into some room temp. rain water for 5-10 minutes every week or two - don't soak, as many easily rot!

Feed during the growing season, about every 2 to 3 weeks - you can get special orchid fertiliser, otherwise, use a general 1.

Don't discard the flower stems, as they'll often resprout lower down. Just cut off the dead parts, as they die back.

Repot every 2 to 3 years in speclialist orchid bark chunks.

Keep out of drafts!

Temps roughly - 75-85F day / 60-65F night.

Keep the air nearby reasonably moist, eg. saucer with pebbles and water nearby. Don't stand the plant in water tho!

Good luck! Just didn't want you going on a wild expensive chase, for some spammer selling books that don't tell the the full truth. Rob
Reply:If you Google ORCHIDS it will bring you several care sites.
Reply:This is also called the moth orchid %26amp; is the easiest to take care of. It needs bright light but not direct and needs to be kept moist with good drainage but do not sit in water and do not mist or spray late in day. They like humidity so surround with moist moss. Repot every 12-18 month--in coarse orchid mix (the nursery can tell you how but its easy). Roots will wander out of the pot and that is normal. Once all the flowers die, cut the spike back to just above the first node and a new spike will grown out. They may go into shock in their new home--if so it may take up to a year for them do re-flower--so don't give up. You can buy orchid food %26amp; feed regularly. Most orchids die from over-watering--they get moldy and soggy--if you have good draining orchid bark and soak in the sink once a week (so the bark stores water) and then put into a dry draining tray you should do fine
