My orchid has dried-up rooty looking tentacles sitting on top of the soil in it's pot. Is this ok?

Or should they be covered?

They are sort of dry and papery like dehydrated roots. The orchid is in it's 2nd full bloom this year, so it's not dying... are they supposed to be there?

it sounds fine.
Reply:As far as i am aware they are ok to be there. It sounds as though you are doing something right for it to be blooming another year. I have one that has kept on flowering since i got it in March. Every weekend i water it, but let the water flow through the pot, then each 3rd weekend i give it some Orchid fertiliser, by the same method. The pots are see through so that the light can get to the roots. I have another one that flowered last year and is in bud on a new flower stem, ready to come out. When the flowers finish just stick a silk orchid in the pot, saves looking at green leaves.
Reply:DO NOT cut off these bits as advised! These are perfectly normal, should be there and are part of the orchid!
Reply:No. Cut all the parts that are below the surface of the soil off the plant, and give plenty of water.
Reply:it is O.K. those are parts of the roots system... some will dry and some new ones will start to grow. just continue to water and fertilize as usual.. Wow! 2nd full bloom the same year, a very good sign that you have a healthy orchid.
