Can an Orchid have two stems of buds growing from one plant?

My orchid has one stem of buds that is almost ready to bloom (i think) and another that has been growing quite quickly, though not close to blooming. I was wondering if the plant can have two growing that the same time? Should I take the smaller one off?

GOOD JOB!!! You have a green orchid thumb! Yes, it is possible to have more than one bloom at a time. If you go to an orchid show, you will see plants with multiple bloom stalks.

Do Not take off the second bloom stalk. Just give the plant a little extra food (you are feeding your plant -- aren't you?).
Reply:Yes it can. I would think that if you trim off the weakest one, you might have bigger flowers on the one remaining. I would probably leave it but just make sure the orchid is getting the proper kind and amount of fertilizer.
Reply:DON"T TOUCH IT!!! Congrats! you're an orchid grower. Take notes on how you did it. Mine did that once and haven't since then. I guess I need more food.
Reply:Yes, it is okay -leave it alone - be sure to give it some orchid food.

Reply:Yes, an orchid can have two stems and no, don't remove the second stem. You're lucky to have your orchid bloom at all. I must be doing something wrong with my orchids. I buy the plants in bloom and they never rebloom for me.
Reply:My husband grows orchids, and he has only ever had one bloom at a time. However, I don't think it's impossible to have 2 growths. Wait until after they have bloomed so you don't disrupt their bloom, then you can split them.
Reply:ya it could
