My orchid has a kiki?

it has a kiki, it is a bamboo type dendrobium. I was reading that it could be making a kiki because it is dying. the leaves were turning yellow, but i followed the advice i found online, and cut the leaves and used cinnimon to protect the cuts. Does this sound like my orchid is dying of root rot?? please give me some feedback...

Are the stem still firm? If so, your Dendrobium is not dying from root rot. Some Dendrobiums are deciduous and will shed their leaves annually. Be careful about overwatering though. If your orchid has a keiki, leave it on the plant until you see a few roots that are about 2 to 3 inches in length. Then you can carefully slice the keiki from the stem with a clean and sharp knife and pot it up. Keep the little plant moist and away from direct sunlight. Happy growing!

Reply:dendrobiums lose leaves as they get older. i don't think the orignal is necessarily dying unless the very top leaves are dying. i usually leave keikis inplace for a year or two at least. they can be hard to grow by themelves and are sill dependent on the parent plant until it is completely dead -- ie it will depend on the stalk of the parent until the stalk is dead.
