Orchid is being weird -- what is it?????

I've had this orchid for about 2 years, it did not flower last year, but it is now. The weird thing is, its also sending out these white shoots, I dont know if they are flower stalks or roots. They cant seem to make up their mind either; most of them are pointed up, but one of them went down into the bark.

Any ideas?? I wonder if it's mad at me coz I've never fertilized it.

I have had lots of fun and consternation with orchids the past few years. All but one of mine are phaleonopsis, so I might not be able to help. Here goes, the roots(which like you said may point up or any where) will be a cottony white in color except for the very tip which will be a smooth green. They seem to bend and zag all over the place. The flower stalk is pretty much a smooth green from base to bud and curves upward smoothly. It probably is mad at you. They don't need much, but they need something.

try http://www.orchidplantguide.com It helped me. Lots of cool stuff.
Reply:They are roots. Rooting is about every one or two years. Shows green root tips on plump white roots. It either roots at the bottom like the phalaenopsis orchid, or sprouts from a developing growth (like dendrobium). It's trying to find something to cling on to so it's not mad at you;and maybe you can make it happier by fertilizing it!
Reply:probably it's producing baby orchid shoots.
Reply:Congrats on getting them to rebloom. I had no luck until I stopped fertilizing them.
Reply:The white shoots are called air roots and show that your orchid is very happy in its current condition. Congratulations!
