How do I fertilize an orchid? Is there a liquid that is easy to just pour in? Or do I have to mix soil?

Also when do I do so? I have an orchid that lost blooms in November...I need direction with that one, and also just got a new one yesterday which is currently bloomed. How can I start caring for each from this point on? Thanks!

You can buy liquid feed especially for orchids. One is in a bottle and is diluted with water, the other is in a clear plastic tube with a pointed end that you push into the surface of the soil, it is left there to drip feed the orchid.
Reply:Oh dear, I am afraid if you had it for any length of time, it may be done for just by the tone of the question, but taking a chance it is new, here goes. Add the fertilizer to your water for watering the plant. I do it twice a week adding a little at first to dampen the medium, and then a little more until I see dampness coming out of the pot on the bottom. Hopefully, you do not have soil in the pot, but a mixture cocoa bark and a little peat with a container that allows air to circulate. It will bloom when it is ready to bloom. Mine do twice a year and go for several months, as long as a cat does not knock one over.
Reply:Orchids grow in the crotches of trees and do not need soil to grow. Their roots wrap around the tree and are shaded naturally from the strong rays of the sun. They like it bright but not full sun. They get fertilised in the wild by bird droppings and the rain carrying it into the leaves and onto the roots. They blossom when ever they want. Don't worry about the flowers just as long as the roots are white and the leaves are healthy looking. Grow it in filtered light and spray it with diluted fertiliser every so often, , (Look for trace elements) Make sure you use a soiless medium (tree Bark) as the roots do better drying out and in the air.
Reply:they are cyclical bloomers so it may be awhile before it reblooms perhaps along as 9 months or so.. Often they blooom at the same time each year much like outdoor plants.

The blooms you see will stay on from 2-5 weeks depending on the orchid they are extremely long lasting

needless to say you do need to fertilize it. most are powdered that you dilute with water and then water your orchid with. But they are orchid specific don't just use a miracle gro or something generic.

you want to mimic rain, so watering the leaves, roots and soil about once a week is good. hold it over the sink and let teh water pour over it. THE SOIL SHOULD BE COARSE AND DRAIN WELL, IT SHOULD NOT HOLD WATER.

then every four of fifth time you water like this add the fert and water with teh fert water mix.
Reply:Use water-soluble fertilizer. Frequency depends on the species and the time of year.
