Will an orchid get enough light from a north facing window?

This is my first orchid and I don't know where to put it! .

I'm not sure which kind you have- the American Orchid Society has care sheets for many of the common types here:

That being said, I suspect you have a Phalaenopsis (moth orchid)- they're the most common. The AOS recommends an east, west, or shaded south window. They like a bit more light than an African Violet, if that helps...
Reply:It depends on the breed of orchid. I have 7 different ones. They don't like direct sunlight...I have mine in my enclosed patio, the get sun but its like jungle atmosphere. They'll be happy with part-sunny lighting. I've had mine for three years now, and keep picking up new ones.

Oh and they don't like their petals to be wet. And I know this sounds absolutely crazy, but clean the orchid's leaves(not the petals) with lemon. Cut a lemon in half and rub the pulp side on the leaves. I have an orchid book. I can't find it right now, or else I would give you more specific advice.
Reply:Yes, it could.
