How to encourage my moth orchid to flower?

I have a Phal. (moth orchid). I water weekly and feed it monthly. It gets light via flourescent bulb, because not much sun comes into my apartment. It's maintained in about 60-70 degree temp. The leaves are lush, and the roots are very healthy. I use a formulated orchid fertilizer....My only problem is that the flowers, after I got the plant, fell off after 2 weeks...I cut the spike, and now 3 months later, all I was able to acheive was root growth and a new leaf. My plant just won't flower for me...

How to encourage my moth orchid to flower?
Most orchids have a foliage growing phase and a leaf growing phase. Your orchid should grow a leaf, then be ready for another flower

If its a phalaenopsis, it will need cooler night temperatures and the shortening of day length. Try putting it in a location where you get cooler nights (but not too cold!)...Below 65 F should do the trick.
Reply:Your orchid likely won't bloom again until next year. You can encourage it by re-potting it. Other than that, it appears you are doing everything right.
Reply:Could be the flowers fell off due to change in environment. Phals will flower when ready, usually summer, provided they receive proper light and temperature. You know about the rule for fertilization, weekly, weakly. Weekly at 1/2 strength recommended. Also the type of growing medium will dictate which fertilizer to use, ie. higher nitrogen content when using bark .All About Growing Orchids, Ortho Books, is a nice inexpensive general reference book.
