Does a orchid plant have a stem or only a stalk?
The orchid plant does have a stem ie it is the part of the plant where the leavs and flowers grow from. Basically,in terms of growth form, there are two types: monopodial (single stemmed) where the stem keeps growing and the plant gets taller and taller and the sympodial (multi stemmed),where the stem stops growing after some time and the tip turns into an inflorescence. New plants are generated in sympodials at the base of the old stem and you end up with a clump of plants where there was only one.
Reply:stem refers to the long hard bark of the plant:

while stalk refers to the part of a plant on which flower blooms.
