Hi, I manage a nursery and I have myself some orchids. This is completely normal. Your plant needs time to rejuvinate so it can produce more flowers next time. They do usually look like they are dead or almost dead so don't worry about it. It may take a few months to grow some new leaves and up to a year before it will flower again. Hope this has helped.
Reply:I trimmed my orchid last year and put in a cooler place than normal for about four weeks and then brought in back to its normal place and kept it damp (sprayed leaves occasionally as well). I had a new flowers on it thisyear and was thrilled with it. They've gone over now so have put it in garage in the hope that same will happen. Good luck.
Reply:I've just answered a question on Orchids (see sources) re: feeding them - could help you.

Sounds like it might be dead with brown leaves, oh dear, not sure if it can be revived now. I do know stories of people who had an orchid stem, didn't water it and then (apparently) it started flowering again, so you really don't need to feed it as regularly. I'd get another one and this time care for it correctly - I use below advice, see link:
Reply:They are very difficult to keep. they prefer on a window south

during the winter only water every 4-5 days in the summer if its hot everyday. They prefer 40%-60% humidity so you might have to use trays for that. Only fed them once a month. Talk to them

positive energy. Tell them you appreciate their beauty it works.
Reply:The biggest killer of Orchids is over watering. I would not water this plant. In fact I whould take it out of pot and lay it bare root on a warm shady place and wait for it to have new growth. New stalks and roots. Then repot. You can be too nice to orchids and kill them. Good luck!
Reply:that is normal, if you leave it, you will see some new shoots come up from the old, that is how they propogate, besides by the seeds, but you can get some good plants by cutting and dividing orchids, you dont have to cut anything
Reply:brown and hollow.sounds to me like it has passed it's time.but you can waite and see if a knew stalk starts to sprout out.i doubt it but give it alittle time before you just through it out just to make sure.
Reply:i dont know if they live very long, mine always die - maybe thats just me ah
