Can you plant an orchid outside in New England?

I received an orchid (Double Cymbidium) from my girlfriend last spring. I just planted the orchid in her garden 2 days ago. Is this okay to do? Will it last the winter and bloom in the spring? I am having trouble finding info. Any help or info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

No, I'm sorry but it does not grow outside in cold areas. Also you don't plant them in soil, they are "air plants" and will even grow on trees in tropical areas. Take a look at what your orchid was planted in when your gf gave it to you. It looks like rocks. Right?
